CAIXA wanted to privatize it

Finally, Brazilian government will auction to grant Lotex

The dispute around Lotex, the lottery scratch card game known as “raspadinha”, seems to be nearing its end. The team of the Brazilian Finance Minister, Henrique Meirelles, will auction the lottery to be administered via concession. Caixa wanted to control the company and then privatize it. Until last month the estimate was that the Lotex concession could raise US$ 1.25 billion, a value now revised to US$630 million.

The team of Henrique Meirelles won the intern battle with CEF (Caixa Econômica Federal) around Lotex, the lottery known as "raspadinha". The government will auction it so that it can be administered via concession.

CEF wanted to control the company and then privatize it. Even President Michel Temer became involved in the dispute, which ended up being defeated by Meirelles.

According to the columnist Mônica Bergamo, from Folha de S. Paulo, the government estimated that the Lotex concession could raise US$ 1.25 billion, but the amount was revised to US$ 630 million.

This week, GMB anticipated that international industry leaders IGT, Scientific Games and Intralot are awaiting the government's decision on "Lotex" and have already expressed interest in working with lottery in Brazil. Now it is expected that an official announcement will be published next month, followed by a bidding in October.
