Partnership between Cordish and Greenwood Gaming

Philadelphia hotel casino project receives definitive approval

The partnership between Cordish and Greenwood Gaming & Entertainment Inc received permission last Friday to build a unified casino and hotel complex in a district in southern Philadelphia, USA. The company, which operates Stadium Casino LLC, expects to begin construction in 2018 and open the complex in 2020, Cordish said in a statement.

The permit was issued just over two months after rival property operator, SugarHouse Casino, withdraws an appeal against the gambling license given to the Cordish and Greenwood group, followed by the enactment of a new state law that has hampered the lawsuit. SugarHouse, in the Fishtown area of Philadelphia, is currently the only licensed casino operator in the city.

The US$ 600 million complex will consist of a casino hotel with five locations for restaurants, show houses and a parking lot. The game room will feature 2,200 slot machines and 150 tables, while the hotel will have over 200 apartments.

In a statement, Cordish said that a project will be named Stadium Casino in place of the previous name Philadelphia Live!, which although not yet officially confirmed will no longer be used.
