Slots generate 85% of French casino revenue

Slot machines accounted for 84.87 % of the total casino market in France over the last year. The 200 French casinos operating in the 2016 to 2017 fiscal year generated total gaming revenues of €2.292bn, up 2.48 per cent from the previous year with slot machines down 1.47 per cent to €1.92bn. The average daily spend per slot was €69.42.

Electronic table games continued to grow impressively increasing by 24.33 per cent whilst generating €144,623,837 and accounting for 6.3 per cent of the overall GGR. Of the 200 casinos, there were only 20 who weren’t operating electronic table games, against 31 a year earlier. Electronic English Roulette generates the lion’s share of this total with a GGR of €141,330,842, followed by electronic Black Jack which generates €2,968,357. The rest is generated by electronic Punto Banco which is only just entering the French market with games still being operated on trial.

Traditional table games were up by 0.36 per cent year-on-year with GGR of €202,238,101. Leading the way was English Roulette, which is offered in 120 casinos and represents a GGR of €72,139,432. French Roulette is still present in six casinos, namely Aix-en-Provence, Cassis, Deauville, Enghien, Evian and Niederbronn. It accounts for a total GGR of €4.29m. American Roulette is only played in two Caribbean casinos in Gosier and Saint-François.

With a total GGR of €67,179,602, Black Jack is the second top-earning table game in France and is only absent from four casinos. Of the other main games, Texas hold’em Poker has a GGR of €22,011,710, Ultimate Poker, €14,759,025, and Casino Hold’em Poker, €2,410,550.

Only five casinos offer Punto Banco throughout the whole of France with Lucian Barrière’s Enghien casino generating the vast majority of this at €14.051.435 with the other four casinos making a cumulative total of €312.851. Finally, La Boule, still operated by 46 casinos, has a total GGR of €2,223,077.
