Sportium becomes ninth online operator in Colombia and reveals ambitious plans

Spanish gaming group Sportium received from Coljuegos the ninth license to operate online gambling in Colombia, in a five-year contract with a value of US$5 million. The company, that will operate under the domain www.sportium.com.co, launches an ambitious expansion plan that includes more than 100 points of sale covering 30 municipalities throughout the country.

The five-year contract, with a value of US$3 million, was signed between Coljuegos and representatives of Sportium Daniel Arias (Country Manager) and Antonio Granados (Legal). This way the firm, that will operate under the domain www.sportium.com.co, becomes the ninth operator with authorization from Coljuegos, adding to the eight websites that already offer online betting legally in the country.

The Colombian regulator, Coljuegos, hopes to consolidate the legal gambling offer in Colombia on the occasion of the celebration of the 2018 World Cup, and in that context Sportium announces the imminent opening of its first point of sale in the country.

After a successful implementation of a powerful network of points of sales in Panama, arriving in Colombia in full boom of the sports betting market due to the proximity of the World Cup is presented as the great scenario in which Sportium wants to shine.

"The launch in Colombia will be a great milestone for Sportium. We have worked hard to bring the best betting product to the Colombian player, and we have an ambitious national expansion plan. We will be present with more than 100 locations in the main cities of Colombia on time for the World Cup," said Laura Bernat, Sportium's Expansion Director.

Daniel Arias, Country Manager of Colombia, added: "Our goal is to take sports betting to another level in Colombia. This is reflected in a specialized betting terminal, intuitive and reliable software, with assemblies in machine rooms and casinos that invite to play; with unique levels of investment and quality. These aggregated values are reflected in the first room where we started operations."

Meanwhile, Alberto Eljarrat, CEO of Sportium, stressed the importance for the company this new step in its international expansion: "This start in Colombia will be an important step forward in our international plans. We hope to contribute in a decisive way in the development of the sports betting sector in the Colombian market, under the new regulation, and reproduce our successes being the reference in product and service ".
