As a result, Italian problem gamblers now have a single online form which is to allow them to exclude themselves from all licensed gambling companies that operate on the Italy’s regulated online gambling market.
The new self-exclusion scheme would make it easier for customers to stay away from online gambling operators as it would provide them with the opportunity bar themselves from every online gambling operator that currently operates legally on the territory of the country, instead of making individual suspension requests to the operators.
Over the past few years, the number of people who asked to take advantage of their self-exclusion right has increased. For example, 56,000 players asked gambling operators to block their accounts and ban them from accessing their websites in 2017, a figure which represented a 6% increase in comparison to the results revealed in 2016. The figure also stands for about 3% of the overall number of online gamblers in Italy.
