Leo De Biase

ESL Brazil’s CEO to speak about eSports growth at Juegos Miami

Leo De Biase has 20 years of experience in gaming and technology areas and joined ESL, world's largest eSports firm, in November 2016. The Brazilian market moved US$655.3m in 2017 and the projection is that it will exceed US$1bn by 2019. The expert will participate in the event organized by Clarion Gaming (May 30–June 1 in Miami), where he will explain the growth of eSports in Brazil and give a worldwide panorama.

The executive came from a passage of more than four years at NVIDIA, where he was responsible for the areas of Consumer Marketing and Public Relations for Latin America. Prior to that, De Biase also worked for other big companies in the industry, including Bigpoint and Level Up! Games.

Acting in the segment since 1998, he pioneered the "Lan Houses" segment in Brazil and, as a former professional player of CS 1.6 and an eSports enthusiast, he became a reference in the market for consultations, lectures and narrations.

About the potential of our country, De Biase commented a few days ago in an interview with Torcedores.com that "the big and most important eSports events have been happening in Brazil for some time, and now the ESL is coming with even more strength to the Brazilian scenario. Bringing a global event as important as the ESL One Belo Horizonte 2018 will only further strengthen the segment market. "

"ESL is concerned with providing a path to success for all players from Base to the World: From Zero To Hero. Our main league, the Brazilian Premier League, aims to assist in the evolution of eSports in Brazil, promoting regular competitions for a superior level of experience in conjunction with the assignment of awarding, focusing only on players and national teams," commented De Biase.

“The Brazilian public is very loyal and passionate and already represents the third largest audience of eSsports worldwide, according to data from the latest research from Newzoo. According to this consultancy our audience is only behind the public in China and the United States,” he added.

To understand the scale of this success it is important to analyze the data from the mentioned research. In 2017 the captive audience that watched the electronic sports in the country already was superior to the television audience of, for example, volleyball, which is very popular in Brazil. This number is reached by adding the masculine and feminine modalities. The eSports enthusiasts have already reached the mark of 11.4 million viewers. Already the total number of gamers, according to Newzoo, is 66.3 million people. To get an idea of what this means, this is the total number of speakers of the Korean language in the world.

Another fact that may surprise many people is that women are the majority among the Brazilian gamer public. Although this is not a new fact. The idea that women do not like electronic games is being knocked over with these numbers: 53.6% of Brazilian gamer audience is female.
