BetClic will broadcast Cristiano Ronaldo games at Juventus

The online sportsbook has guaranteed the rights to stream live the Serie A matches where the Portuguese star plays. The first will be already next weekend. 'It was a league that we already wanted, but now there's the added bonus thar Ronaldo plays there,' says Miguel Domingues, communication and brand director at BetClic.

BetClic will broadcast the games of Cristiano Ronaldo at Juventus after having guaranteed the Italian League's online broadcast rights to the Portuguese market. In TV, SportTV guaranteed the rights of Serie A. The first will be already next weekend.

Italian Serie A is the latest competition to join the ones that the bookmaker makes live streaming on its website to customers. The Spanish and the French leagues, for example, are other competitions whose matches will be broadcast live on the betting firm website.

This in not something new for the company. BetClic has long been a connection between the transmission of the competitions and the increase in betting volume. The most obvious case is with the NBA. "Since we started streaming the NBA games [2016] we felt there was a growth in the volume of betting," says Miguel Domingues. "We grew 62% from the moment we started streaming," he says.

Football is the mode where the Portuguese bet more, representing more than half of the bets made on the platform, followed by the Spanish League. "Now with Ronaldo in the Italian league we believe that this may rise from the current position (4/5)," admits Domingues.

The broadcasts are not limited to football. Outside the national market is the NOS League (SportTV holds the rights), but the German League, Brasileirao, Turkish, Belgian or Dutch leagues are part of the Betclic grid, but also Wimbledon tennis matches, US Open or Roland Garros, snooker, handball ... "All our games come from three suppliers that provide us with all kinds of streaming, from soccer to table tennis," says Domingues. Performa, MSM and IMG, with whom they have now negotiated the Italian League.

In Portugal, of the five online bookmakers, only two (BetClic and Bet.pt) broadcast live games, but BetClic is the only one that has access to the Italian and Spanish leagues. Domingues does not anticipate a race of online betting firms for digital broadcasting rights, as happened with the television rights of the National League that led to a fierce dispute between NOS and Meo / Altice around the television rights of the three major national championships.

"Among online bookmakers I find it very difficult to do so, because the exclusivity has high costs. What we want is to provide a complementary service to customers, our business is not the transmission of games in streaming," says the communication and brand manager of BetClic, while recognizing that the market is evolving into the mobile and with this decision the betting operators also wanted to follow the market.

In the case of BetClic, to watch the games it is necessary to be a registered client, of legal age and open an account with an initial deposit of 10 euros “that you can spend on betting," says Domingues. It is not necessary to make obligatory reinforcements, being able to watch the games until with zero credit in the account "whenever in the last 24 hours the client has placed a bet." On average, a BetClic customer bets 1.10 euros.

Horse races and eSports are modalities that can be added to the BetClic offer, if the company receives the Ok from the regulator, ERSI.
