Macau received five times more tourists than Brazil thanks to integrated resorts

Michaell Soll introduced the experience of Las Vegas Mirage, the first resort-integrated casino concept in which gambling was the main attraction in the early 1980s. Ten years later, the concept was expanded to offer new options next to the gaming area, extending the entertainment offer. Pedro Cortéz, from Rato, Ling, Leal & Cortés Advogados, also participated in the session, commenting on his extensive experience the Macau.

"In recent years, Macau has become a great destination thanks not only to gaming, but especially for the integration between casino, hotel and other entertainment offerings. Today, projects are under way that will add 40,000 hotel rooms to city, which demonstrates the success of the concept of integrated resorts," said Soll begining his presentation.

According to Soll, Macau's GDP grew from US$ 7 billion to US$ 55 billion in 2016, which shows the growth of the special region of China, with more than 30 million tourists in 2016, representing five times the number of tourists that visited Brazil in the last year. "Today, entire families go to Macau thanks to the concept of complete resorts, further proof that the model adopted is evidence of the success of the gaming industry."

Another feature of the strength of this industry is a model in progress, where it is predicted that the daily spending will reach US$ 120 thousand, which shows that there are important markets for VIP players. The model of Macau guarantees to the player exemption of taxes, since only the casino is taxed, in 35%.

"In Singapore, the same concept has also been applied. Japan and Brazil are expected to adopt the integrated casino model," added Michaell.

According to Michaell, just in São Paulo are interesting projects planned while some studies indicate a revenue of approximately US$ 1.5 billion, generated by gaming. "Latin America today has been little sought after due to local characteristics, especially in relation to VIP players," he said, adding that the industry needs to look for examples of success to apply in Brazil.
