Panel on gaming legalization for tourism and resorts

Regulation will provide an opportunity for investments in Brazil

The main topic of the second session at BGC 2017 was discussion about integrated resorts, in which several attractions complement the gaming activity. Michael Soll, president of Innovation Group, highlighted the economic impact of the activity. Also speaking were Luigi Rotunno (President, Brazilian Association of Resorts), Bruno Omori (President ABIH-SP) and Miguel Garcia, (Managing Director, Tivoli Mofarrej).

According to Soll, casinos develop the whole environment and this should also be taken into account for a country to adopt consistent legislation. After this concept, he introduces the resto of the panelists.

Miguel Garcia, managing director of Tivoli Mofarrej, said that the opening of the gaming activity will further develop the hotel industry in the country and "our group is already analyzing the directions that the legislation is following to define how and where we will invest." For him, examples of success can and should be followed to make the sector strong in Brazil.

Bruno Omori, president of the Brazilian Hotel Industry Association, said the entity could help a lot in developing a hotel industry focused on opening gaming in the country. "With this, we can substantially increase the number of tourists that visit us annually, as well as keep in our country players who are going abroad today."

Luigi Rotunno, president of the Brazilian Association of Resorts, pointed out that resorts are especially important in development in the surroundings and that Brazil has much to gain from the approval of the gaming industry with features of integrated complexes. "The regulation has to be well adjusted so that the investments take place in appropriate places," he said.

The panelists were unanimous in stating that Brazil is at a particularly important moment and that it is time to take the approval of the gaming activity very seriously for the own benefit of the country, the society and the tourism industry.
