The government fails to raise more than US$ 9.5 billion in taxes per year with the diversification of the "jogo do bicho” on the streets of Rio de Janeiro. The estimate is an analysis of the academic coordinator of the Getulio Vargas Foundation course in Management, Marketing and Law in sport, Pedro Trengrouse.
According to Trengrouse, the lack of regulation of the game
allows a load of illegal sites of the "jogo do bicho” that generate harm to the
Union and the bettors, who have no guarantee that they will receive the prize.
Trengrouse also states that Brazil is far from its collection potential
compared to what other countries collect only with lottery tickets.
"Brazil is no more than US$ 4 billion, with per capita sales of US$ 18.53,
behind Portugal (US$ 228 billion); Uruguay (US$ 40 billion) and Argentina, (US$
36 billion)," he says.
The FGV professor informs that in addition to football matches, the bicheiros
cariocas (the ones that sell "jogo do bicho” in Rio) also accept bets in
volleyball games and fights, such as the UFC and reminds that today, in the
country, it is prohibited to economically exploit bets on sports results.
