WEpayments and BTLAW hold a debate on the Brazilian sports betting market

With the Brazilian sports betting market growing by 135%, WEpayments and the law firm BTLAW are holding a free event on the 26th, in São Paulo, to discuss the regulation of the sector. Representatives from the two companies and industry executives participate in the meeting, such as the former Finance advisor, José Francisco Mansur, and Ana Bárbara Teixeira from the Ocean 88 Group.

The event, to be held after BiS SIGMA Americas, will feature special appearances by the former special advisor of the Executive Secretariat of the Ministry of Finance, José Francisco Manssur, and the director of Regulatory Affairs for Brazil at the Ocean 88 Group (operator based in Cyprus), consultant for the National Association of Games and Lotteries (ANJL) and founding member of the Association of Women in the Gaming Industry (AMIG), Ana Bárbara Teixeira.

One of the hottest sectors in Brazil, fixed odds betting – also known as sports betting or bets – grew by 135% in the national market in 12 months, according to data from DataHub and Aposta Legal Brasil. The growth of companies in the segment in the country was even greater: 360% between 2020 and 2022.

Thinking about situating the market and entrepreneurs in the sector after the sanction of Law 14,790/2023, which provides for the regulation of iGaming, WEpayments, a fintech specialized in processing high volumes of local and cross border payments, in partnership with Barcellos Tucunduva Advogados ( BTLAW), an office with 70 years of activities and a reference in the area of sports betting and payment methods, promotes an exclusive and free event for those interested in the betting market.

Bringing together the biggest players in the sector, “Clarifying the game: Unraveling the regulation of the iGaming market” will be held on April 26th (Friday), at 9:30 am (Brasília time), at the Spazio JK Building, located on Av. President Juscelino Kubitschek, 1,726 – Vila Nova Conceição, in São Paulo.

A reference in the betting and payment sector, lawyer Giancarllo Melito, partner at BTLAW, will be one of the hosts of the event, alongside the CEO of WEpayments, Fernanda Zago.

He explains one of the reasons why the sports betting and online gaming market is in full swing in Brazil. “Today I joke that we no longer watch a football game without seeing some companies sponsoring matches, clubs and even championships,” explains the expert.

With more than 70 years of activity, the firm Barcellos Tucunduva Advogados (BTLAW) is further expanding the consultancy and advisory sector in Gaming and Betting Law.

“In an extremely competitive market segment, payments focused on fixed-odd sports betting, we see a current transformation in the way operators purchase services. Payment processing alone is not enough. Offering top-notch products and services is essential for the success of a payments processor,” explains Fernanda Zago, CEO of WEpayments.

“WEpayments’ partnership with BTLAW is essential for us to stay ahead of regulations and be supported to offer an aggregated and complete service in terms of regulation to our customers,” reinforces Fernanda Zago.
