Brazilian Tourism Minister says casinos reopening is planned

Marx Beltrão said he is fighting for a measures list, which includes reopening the casinos, to be announced even in the first half of this year. Sector traded around USD $ 6.2 billion in 2016.

Tourism minister, Marx Beltrão, said that the reopening of casinos integrated to resorts is planned and is one of the measures that will make Brazilian tourism grow in the coming years. The head of tourism in Brazil is in Madrid participating in FITUR.

According to the minister, the reopening of the casinos integrated to resorts is part of a list of actions to boost national tourism that need the approval of the president of the republic, Michel Temer. Beltrão said he is negotiating with the president and already has a forecast for the announcement of the measures.

"I am optimistic and I am going to fight to the end for these measures. I understand that tourism is the sector of the economy that can give a quicker response to the resumption of growth, but we need these measures. The president understands our point of view and I believe that even in this first semester, he will announces the actions".

In addition to the reopening of the casinos, there are also other topics in the list of measures to be taken: Transforming Embratur (
Brazilian Institute of Tourism) into an agency; promoting concessions to manage natural parks; changing legislation to allow the creation of special areas of tourist interest; and creating special rates for theme parks to import equipment under competitive conditions.

In 2016, the tourism sector received an investment of just 16 million dollars, nevertheless, obtained the best result in the tourism of Brazil. The country received 6.6 million foreign tourists, who left USD $ 6.2 billion in Brazilian coffers.
