CCJ would have new rapporteur for Brazilian gaming law In February

The project had already been approved unanimously by the Special Committee on National Development in November. Then, the Senate decided to send it to the Commission of Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) for a new analysis. It is sought that the approval of the law can occur during the first quarter of this year.

Brazil is increasingly approaching the sanction of a law that ends 70 years without legal gaming in the country. Several sources point out that the CCJ would define the new project rapporteur (PL 186/2014) in February or in the first days of March for further treatment in plenary.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives must deal with that at the same time. With the other project, Law (PL 442/91), Brazil analyzes the return of an activity that generate billions of dollars in taxes and thousands of jobs in a time of crisis in the country.

This project had already been approved unanimously by the Special Committee on National Development in November. But the text was referred to the CCJ after approval in plenary of the request made by Senator Magno Malta (PR-ES), which prevented treatment last year, and now seems to postpone its analysis at least until April or May.

In addition to the CCJ, the project should have a new rapporteur, who was not chosen. The last rapporteur of the bill was Senator Fernando Bezerra (PSB-PE) who accompanied the process until the vote in plenary.

It should be remembered that a second bill is under parliamentary treatment, in this case, in the Chamber of Deputies. PL 442/91 was discussed at a public meeting at the end of December, but there is still no possible date for treatment in the House.
