Research reveals broad support favoring passage of gaming bill in Brazil

The website www.votenaweb.com.br published the final results of an online research on the bill of Senator Ciro Nogueira that regulates gaming in Brazil. Finally, 61% of the nearly 22,000 people who voted are in favor of bingos and casinos reopening and legalization of gambling and sports betting.

Votenaweb is a project developed by Webcitizen, which has a multidisciplinary team led by Fernando Barreto and has journalists, advertisers, lawyers, programmers and designers. The aim is to increase the politicization of society, to provide an easy way to follow, vote and debate the work of politicians, creating an environment conducive to dialogue between parliamentarians and citizens. Anyone can vote by registering on the site (also through Facebook). In addition to voting, people can leave comments on the different topics.

In the case of the Senate bill, 13,062 citizens have voted in favor of the approval, which corresponds to 61% of the 21,578 participants. Besides these, 100% of the politicians who voted in the poll chose YES. The site also has a classification about the project, with six characteristics, of which three have been classified as "urgent", "relevant" and "brave".

With over 660 comments, only about 100 of them are against approval of the bill and the main justification is money laundering, which demonstrates the total ignorance of those who have left their comments, since laundering money in regulated and highly taxed gambling does not result in "laundering" but rather in loss of money. The second highlighted aspect is addiction, which can also be countered by the fact that studies indicate that about 2% of those who play are considered addicts.

Votenaweb places itself as a site of non-partisan civic engagement and commits itself to bringing to Congress the results of popular participation.
