Senate wants the opinion of Brazilians on gaming legalization

The portal e-cidadania of the Federal Senate has launched an online survey to know if the population supports or not the exploration of games of chance in all the country. In the survey, 81% of citizens approve the measure. To expand participation in the consultation, the Senate is spreading research on its official twitter and facebook social networks.

In the air since 2012, the Senate portal aims to stimulate and enable greater citizen participation in legislative activities. In the public consultation on Senate Bill 186 of 2014, authored by Senator Ciro Nogueira, the question "Do you support this proposition?" has so far 81% approval. Of the 3,062 citizens who voted, 2,500 support approval of the bill.

In the portal, interested parties can download the project in full and also follow the entire process in the Senate. In order to vote, to know more about the project and its current stage in the Senate, anyone can visit http://bit.ly/PLS186_2014 .

The Senate should put to a vote in the Constitution and Justice Commission the favorable report of Senator Benedito de Lira to the bill that regulates gaming in Brazil. The senator even proposed to change the term "gambling" to "games of fortune" to end the stigma that was created around the activity after 75 years of prohibition.

Given CCJ approval, it is possible that on the same day the project will go to plenary for a vote. In case of approval, it will go to the Chamber, where it should be considerated. As there is another project under discussion in the House, it will have to be joined to the Senate proposal as an amendment. Should this be confirmed, the Senate will have the final decision on the proposal, which will continue for presidential sanction.
