Absolute confidence in approval

Brazilian gaming law would be 1st item of CCJ agenda on February 21

Finally, as Games Magazine Brasil informed, CCJ President Edson Lobao's 'Merry Christmas' wish last Wednesday meant that it was the last session of the Constitution and Justice Commission this year. The good news is that the PL 186/2014 rapporteur, Senator Benedito de Lira, has asked that the gaming law be the opening item of the first session of 2018 (February 21), beeing sure to have enough votes for approval.

Both the Advice of Senator Edson Lobao, president of the Constitution and Justice Commission, and the press office of the CCJ itself, confirmed this morning to GMB that there is no meeting plan for next week. Thus, the one of Wednesday 13th was the last of 2017 and the first of next year will be on February 21.

Supporters of legalization believe that by mid-March the bill could be passed by both legislative houses (House and Senate) and ready for regulation. To get to that point, one of the two projects need to go through the following procedure:

In the Chamber - PL 442/1991
- Approval in plenary of the Urgency Request

-Votation of project PL 442/91, if approved follows for appreciation in the Senate.

In the Senate - PL 186/2014
- Vote and approval of Benedito de Lira's report on the Constitution and Justice Commission.

- Vote and approval of the bill by the Senate plenary.

While the projects follow their procedures, the population has been favoring the legalization of the activity. Several surveys show the preference of Brazilians for legal gambling. The most recent has been made by the Senate itself, through the Senate Date, where the population responds to three questions related to the legalization process.
