Gaming legalization to be fourth item to vote tomorrow at CCJ

Bill PLS 186/2014 appears as one of the first issues to be defined in the session of the Commission of Constitution and Justice (CCJ) of this Wednesday in the Brazilian Senate. Last week, rapporteur Benedito de Lira had asked for another week to analyze the amendments added by his colleagues. It remains to know whether a new report will be submitted and a collective hearing will be requested, or if it will finally be put to a vote and then passed to the plenary.

The Senate's Constitution and Justice Commission (CCJ) is due to analyze tomorrow (Wednesday) the bill that deals with the legalization of games of chance throughout Brazil. Through the project, part of the funds collected will be destined to states and municipalities that will have to apply money in health, social security and welfare, basic education and public security.

Amendments 71 and 72 dealt respectively with the expansion of the concept of integrated leisure complexes with casinos and the exclusive allocation of the resources of the activity for public safety, as the governors requested.

In the last two weeks, more amendments were added to the project which delayed its final treatment and voting:

- On November 21, Amendments N°71 and 72, authored by Senator Wilder Morais (depending on report), were presented;

- On November 28, Amendment N° 73 was submitted, by Senator Ana Amélia (depending on report);

- On November 28, Amendment N° 74 was presented, by Senator Jader Barbalho (depending on report);

- On November 29, Amendments N° 75 and 76, submitted by Senator Roberto Rocha (depending on report), were presented;

- On November 29, Amendment N° 77 was submitted, by Senator Lindbergh Farias (depending on report).

With the addition of the new proposals, the project defines that part of the resources collected will be destined to states and municipalities that will have to apply the money in health, welfare and social assistance, basic education and public security.

During its course, the Ciro Nogueira project has already passed the Economic Development Committee of the Senate, where it was unanimously approved. It then went to vote in plenary but, with approval of Senator Magno Malta's request, it was passed to the CCJ for analysis, where it waits to be added again on the agenda and to be voted by the senators in plenary.
