Deputy Rogério Peninha Mendonça (PMDB / SC) defended
the release of gaming in Brazil stating that the activity already exist in the
country and that whoever is against the project makes judgments without
knowledge of the subject. "Even with the ban, thousands of people continue
to play, or we pretend that this simply does not exist, or we face the
situation, we regularize it and we start to collect taxes. Many of those who
oppose the proposal criticize without common sense. ”
Peninha presented a proposal
to allocate 2% of the amount collected in taxes on gamings to the Association
of Parents and Friends of the Exceptional (APAE).
"About
250,000 people attend APAEs every day, in more than 2,000 units present
throughout Brazil. The work developed by the association is fantastic, despite
the lack of resources. Allocate a percentage raised in gaming for education of
people with special needs is a gesture that this Congress has the duty to
practice, "explains the deputy.
Monthly, it is estimated that 200,000 Brazilians travel outside the country to gamble
mainly in Uruguay, Argentina, Chile and Paraguay. In the United States, the
largest betting market in the world, the value of gamling in 2015 totaled more
than USD 140 billion, according to The Economist.
