Online gaming kept AC casino revenue up

Once again, online gaming helped Atlantic City casinos to keep their monthly revenue up. Figures released by the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement show the seven casinos won US$ 205.3 million from gamblers in February, representing an increase of 0.3 % compared to the same month of 2016.

Without the extra money took from online gamblers, the casinos would have posted a decrease of nearly 2 %. Resorts Digital, up 131 % compared with a year ago and the Golden Nugget, up 66 %, had particularly good months online. Rush Street Interactive runs one of the Golden Nugget’s sites, which has been growing its revenue by about 25 % a month since launching last September.

"Online gaming represents a growth vehicle for the gaming industry as it attracts a new and younger demographic,” said Richard Schwartz, Rush Street’s president. "Plus, industry data shows that existing brick-and-mortar casino players, who subsequently become online players too, return more frequently to the brick-and-mortar casino and spend 15 % more on the casino floor.”

Schwartz said he expects further growth in New Jersey’s online gaming market in 2017, particularly as it becomes easier for players to deposit money to fund online betting accounts. New Jersey’s internet gambling market took in US$ 18.7 million in February, an increase of nearly 27 % over the same month last year.

"The current operators continue to show resiliency in a challenging gaming market and have been able to increase the New Jersey gaming market,” said Matt Levinson, chairman of the New Jersey Casino Control Commission.
