With growing international coverage, which features HD images, interactive
features and expert commentary, poker championships have been winning the
national market, especially with broadcasts from ESPN Brazil and Band Sports, which
included the sport on its screen five nights a week with its Poker Night.
The Poker Nigth program is aired by Band Sports from Monday to Friday at 11pm.
The program features information from the Brazilian championships, such as the
Brasileirão do Poker, Paulista Holdem Championship, BSOP and CPH, with compact
tournaments including technical comments, interviews with the big names of the
game, content for beginners and international poker tournaments. Special events
and marathons are also made during the program.
ESPN also gives poker many hours in its programming to cover the World Series
of Poker (WSOP). When the tournament begins, the station displays programs with
the best of the Main Event. Last year there were 26 programs, lasting from 1h
to 1h30, shown in the previous weeks of November Nine, with the grand final
broadcast live from the October 30th to November 1st. This year the WSOP runs
from May 30 to July 18. ESPN also displays compact of other international
tournaments throughout the show.
Despite the growth in television, the media with greater reach in the country,
most of the poker events are still displayed on Internet channels.
