Brazilian economist expects gaming legalization to raise US$ 32 billion

In an article published in the O Progresso newspaper, in Mato Grosso do Sul state, the economist and professor of Finance, Carlos Alberto Vittorati, defended the immediate legalization of gaming as a way of collecting taxes. He predicts that the Brazilian market can generate close to US$ 32 billion per year in taxes.

The economist Carlos Alberto Vittorati, in his article titled "To Resume Brazil (XXVI)” published this week by the newspaper O Progresso, made a series of proposals regarding the much debated tax reform in Brazil. And right on the first proposal, he defended the immediate legalization of gambling and explained what would be the part of the Federal Government.

"All forms of gambling in the country should be legalized immediately, with the definition that the Federal Government, in the form of taxes and contributions, will be charged a 40% tax on all that is collected."

According to Vittoratti, the regulation of gaming will give the country the opportunity to better control what already exists in terms of betting and and also a new source for collecting from a market that, according to him, is going to move a lot of money .

"There will be a condition of legalization of what already exists and is not fiscalized, as well as an increase on the tax collection making possible, as our proposal says, to reduce taxes on production. This can bem ade because, as we estimate, gaming should contribute with annual revenues of around US$ 32 billion in taxes per year. "

Carlos Alberto Vittorati is a graduate and post-graduate student in Economic Sciences and a professor of Economics and Finance at different universities in Mato Grosso do Sul.
