BSOP Sao Paulo kicked off with more than US$ 1.6 million in prizes

(Exclusive GMB) - The second stage of the Brazilian Series of Poker (BSOP) expects more than 1,000 players registered for the main event, competing for close to US$ 1 million in prizes, aside from the parallel tournaments. The Sao Paulo stage of the BSOP began with great success yesterday (Thursday). Considered one of the most important in the competition, the edition expects to distribute a total of US$ 1.6 million in prizes during the six-day event, as stated by Igor Federal, president of THE Brazilian Confederation of Texas Hold'em (CBTH), and one of the organizers of the event.

"Being the first stage in the national territory we expect to exceed 1,000 players in the main event and consequently reach a total prize of close to US$ 1 million in the main event and over US$ 1.6 million in the whole event," said Igor Federal.

The Sao Paulo capital's stage is also one of the most important of the circuit. According to tournament director of the BSOP, Devanir Campos, the density of the city, the ease of getting around even increases the number of participants and tournaments, giving more chances of punctuation in the search for the champion title.

"For the players that will compete for the ranking, that play all the tournaments to accumulate points and try to be the Brazilian champion of poker, this is a step that has more tournaments that gives players more opportunity to score. We always expect full house,” said Campos.

And who is looking for the trophy of the Sao Paulo edition is André Akkari, ambassador of Brazilian poker and former world champion, who claims to be well positioned in the championship and wants the title at home.

"The BSOP in Sao Paulo is wonderful. I have a lot of final stages, with great possibilities. In the last stage, with more than 1,000 people I ended seventh. I'm doing well and I hope this one is my home spike," commented Akkari.

In addition to the tournaments that are worth point for the championship, the event will still have the presence of celebrities, where names such as Fernando Scherer, Luxembourg Wanderley, Maurren Maggi and Thiago Camilo are expected. The BSOP Sao Paulo is the second stage of the 2017 season and runs until next Tuesday at the WTC Sheraton hotel.
