A statement was released by the US company, which affirms it will still push to build its proposed casino resort. Cordish shows optimistic that the government will end up approving the application for the project.
"The government does not understand our application in two major respects”, stated Cordish. "One, we make no requests for any public infrastructure nor any public subsidy by the government and in fact none is needed. Two, we are fully committed to a total build-out of a massive US$ 2.2 billion integrated resort.”
The company added that "the project is extremely important to the regional Madrid economy. The shame for the citizens of Spain in any delay is that we are prepared to immediately deliver the project, with construction commencing the second quarter 2018.”
The
statement also says that "Live! Resorts Madrid is not an EuroVegas, it is an
entertainment, gastronomic, shopping, meetings and conventions destination with
multiple daily leisure activities and unique cultural attractions in Europe, where
the gaming area of the project only represents a 10 % or 15% of the surface.”
Cordish document also reminds that the project would generate close to 56,000
jobs and generate billions of dollars of economic activities to the region.
Last Friday, after a "profound, serious and rigorous” assessment of the plans,
Madrid officials have rejected the project to build the US$ 2.2 billion casino
resort, on approximately 300+ acres in the Torres de la Alameda sector,
alleging the plan is unviable.
This decision does not mean the project is definitively ended. The government made clear that the company is free to resubmit its plans once concerns remarked by the officials are resolved.
