Javier Balbuena, president of the National
Gaming Commission (Conajzar), announced that once the interinstitutional
commission approves the draft of the terms and conditions, the call for tender
will be made for the construction and operation of a casino hotel in the an
area of 11 hectares that the National Administration of Navigation and Ports (ANNP)
has in Ciudad del Este, in the zone of the "Pueto de la Amistad” (Bridge of
Friendship).
"Conajzar had approved the list of terms and conditions for the call for
tenders last year, but the approval of the interinstitutional commission made
up of the MIC, Customs, Senatur, the Ministry of Finance and Conajzar is still
lacking. If everything goes well, the call for tenders is made with forecast of
opening of envelopes in the middle of this month, "he said.
The objective is to build a hotel complex of international level. Different
international gropus are interested in the project -like Hard Rock, casinos of
Las Vegas and Chile-,for which it is expected 50 to 70 million dollars of
investment and a term of concession that goes from 5 to more than 20 years.
If the Project moves on, this will be the second casino in Ciudad del Este. The first one is the Hotel Casino Acaray.
