bwin determined to remain on Polish market

Online betting brand bwin is seeking to obtain a license to operate on the Polish market. Poland has recently adopted a new Gambling Act that raised taxes on wagering requirements as well as enforced a strict licensing regime for foreign operators.

Until bwin is granted state authorization, it will accept no real-money bets from Polish residents. This move shows the operator’s commitment to complying with the government’s new regulations.

A number of leading overseas gambling operators have already announced their withdrawal from the Polish market. Among those are Pinnacle, bet365, EnergyBet, Mr Green, and Betfair.

That decision elicited a promise on behalf of the government that it would review the 12% taxation on wagering requirements in the future. At the same time, the new law introduces payment and domain-blocking measures that will be enforced as of July 1 this year.
