Due to the economic crisis that seems to have no end for Brazilians, and with
attempts to remedy palliative government, in addition to other taxes that would
further burden the country's payroll, the National Congress is studying
alternatives to increase the collecting of the country.
However, as it has been a long time, online betting already exists in many ways
through various sites around the world that provide services to customers in
Brazil. As a result, online games and betting have been growing significantly
in the country, even because they have specialized service to meet national
players and bettors, also offering a support team that works in Portuguese,
offer promotions, bonuses and prizes totally geared to different tastes and profiles
of Brazilians.
According to Professor Pedro Trengrouse of the FGV, there is no regulation and
much less monitoring of the more than 400 international sites open for online
betting among citizens in Brazilian territory, and for this reason the activity
does not have control mechanisms. That is to say, if the tax burden of 30% on
the value of the prizes paid to the billions per year is considered, Brazil
loses at least US$ 826 million in taxes.
As a result, the current Brazilian government plans to develop a state-owned
company to explore online betting and privatize it alongside the instantaneous
lotteries of the Federal Savings Bank (Caixa). Therefore, the privatization of
Lotex (instant lottery as scratch card already exists in Brazil), and which
already has approved legislation, is in the National Privatization Plan (PND),
in the tab of the Caixa structure, and the economic team intends to trigger an
Edict for the sale in August of this year (2017), so the new company will
operate until the second half of 2018.
In addition, the modeling of Lotex is also accompanied by SportBetting (called
betting lottery), but has not yet been created in the country. However
Brazilians participate in these games online through international websites,
although most choose to bet on the local Mega Sena, as it is the largest
lottery in Brazil, besides offering games officially organized by Caixa, which
offers a practical and safe betting option with advanced technology
guaranteeing operations with maximum protection to online bettors.
According to the Special Senate Committee, Bill 186/2014, which refers to Gaming
and Bets in Brazil, is being analyzed, which has received a favorable opinion
from the members of the Commission, and due to the 2017 census that places the
Brazilian population with more than 211 million people, there is enormous
potential for the legalization of online games in the country.
Data from Anatel (National Telecommunications Agency) indicates that Brazil
ended March 2017 with more than 200 million cell phones and density of 117.20
cell phones per 100 inhabitants, and the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography
and Statistics) conducted a survey based on data from Pnad (National Household
Sample Survey), revealing that 57.3% of households access the Internet through
cell phones and / or tablets. That is, the number of Brazilians who have access
to the Internet through smartphone is bigger than in the past.
However, with this digital boom, today's most sought-after online games are
those with the highest quality of navigation and high definition, from video
games such as: Icarus M, Super Mario Run, Lineage 2: Revolution, Modern Combat
Versus, Shadowgun Legends, to gambling, such as sports and lotteries, making
this virtual entertainment the sensation of the moment in Brazil.
