The proposal, by deputies Marco Antônio Cabral (PMDB-RJ) and Mariana Carvalho (PSDB-RO), contemplates the so-called "mental games". The text also provides for the recognition of GO (Chinese board game) and bridge (known as "card chess") as sports activities.
The version approved is the substitute of the rapporteur, Ms. Flávia Morais (PDT-GO), who opted to amend article of Pelé Law 9.615 / 98, which defines the sports modalities, to include mental games.
Mind Sports
"Depending on how they are practiced, mind sports can fit in the different modalities defined by the law," said the deputy. "If they are practiced in education systems for the exercise of citizenship and the practice of leisure, they will be considered as an educational sport," he added.
Through the text, it will be up to the Executive to define which games modalities will be classified as "mental games", which opens the possibility for other options besides those foreseen in the original project.
"The
society and its practices are dynamic, always appearing new forms of sports
interaction, which can not be embedded by law, and can be incorporated more
efficiently by regulation," she told parliament.
The proposal will still be analyzed conclusively by the Commission on Constitution
and Justice and Citizenship.
