LUIZ FELIPE MAIA, AFTER HIS LECTURE AT JUEGOS MIAMI

"I felt that public needs to know better what is happening in Brazil today"

(Exclusive GMB) - The attorney, founding-partner of the FYMSA Advogados firm, was a speaker on the first day of the event that takes place in Miami. He spoke exclusively to GMB about the message during his speech stating that Brazil has already made much of the way to legalizing gaming and that the industry wants to know how can it help to accelerate this process.

A specialist in gaming, Luiz Felipe Maia, founding-partner of FYMSA Advogados, spoke on the topic "Lost Opportunities - What is the future of the game in Brazil?" on the first day of Juegos Miami Games. The lawyer explained what he said to the delegates present in the auditórium.

"During one hour the lecture was dedicted to the situation in Brazil. First, explaining a little about market potential, then trying to explain the political and economic crisis that we are living, talking about the path of the bills that are underway and the initiatives ff the government to bring, maybe, a regulation for sports betting and casinos, "said Maia.

The lawyer also talked about that the historical moment lived by the country has not helped the legalization process of gaming in the country. However, Brazil has already taken important steps in this way towards a regulation.

"We explained that, sadly, we were unlucky at the historical moment that the country is going to coincide with the discussion of gaming, but I also said that we managed to walk a good part of the way. And I mean this due to the approval of sports betting by Congress, which was vetoed by Dilma (former President); the existence of two bills; because the subject is under discussion within the government, something that did not happen long ago,"he said.

"And it’s also necessary to call the industry to actually go to Brazil, try to participate in the decision-making process, show the potential for investment, job creation, and industry revenue for the country," he added.

Luiz Felipe Maia affirmed that the reaction of the public was good and that he saw interest of the businessmen to make some movement in favor of the legalization of gaming in the country. "I think they liked the talk, to understand a little of what is happening in the country at the moment. The questions were about what the industry can do, from simple moves to create an association to defend the interests of the sector in several ways. I think it was very interesting," said the lawyer.

Maia still has another commitment during Juegos Miami. He will be on the panel entitled "Genius Sports Study Case: Why Sports Integrity Matters," today (Thursday).

Along with David Foster of Paddy Power Betfair; Diana Blanco Garzón, Vice President of Commercial Development of Coljuegos; Kristal Lovira, Legal Analyst at Gambling Compliance; Marco Leal, Manager of Member Association and Legal Affairs of CONCACAF and Tom Russell, Genius Sports General Counsel; Maia will discuss what can be done to prevent corruption in sports betting from the work of operators to the support of regulatory bodies.
