According to a national deputy

Sportingbet illegally advertised on Uruguayan football team shirt

One of the two most important football teams of Uruguay, Nacional, wore the logo of Sportingbet, a Brazilian sports betting site that is illegal in Uruguay, according to the national deputy Jorge Gandini. During the match against Botafogo for Copa Libertadores, deputy Gandini published on Twitter that Nacional was 'with advertising of Sportingbet in its shirt, a Brazilian online gambling site, illegal in Uruguay.'

"I have been watching some Uruguayan teams playing the Copa, when they go to Brazil they change the shirt and add a sponsor that are sites of online gaming fromBrazil, but they do not do it in Uruguay. But yesterday, the curiosity was that Nacional was with the logo of Sportbingbet that is prohibited in Uruguay playing in Uruguay," Gandini said to "No toquen nada” radio show.

"I reported this to the Minister of Economy some time ago when Uruguay played in the Centenario stadium with static advertising of Spingol, which is an Argentine site authorized only by the province of Misiones, without legal authorization in the rest of the territory," he added.

The Sportingbet site that advertised Nacional on its shirt is inaccessible from Uruguay unless the IP is hidden.

"It is prohibited in Uruguay, according to a principle of legality established since 1895, which rules and is not questioned, about which games have to be authorized by law. Those that are not authorized by law are ilegal, and illegal gambling is sanctioned," added Gandini.

"If someone advertise a supermarket in Rio de Janeiro I can only buy it when I go there," but in this case "I can go to that website, make sports bets and pay with my credit card," said the deputy.

""I'm not questioning Nacional. There are no mechanisms that work to control ilegal gaming. There are 30,000 slot machines located in neighborhoods that are ilegal. These machines do not pay VAT, BPS, rent or canon, they are illegal and there they are," Gandini added.
