SILAS FREIRE, BRASILIAN DEPUTY COULD-PI

"We can not close our eyes to this: gaming exists!"

In his emphatic speech in Plenary, Brazilian deputy Silas Freire of Piauí, said that it is hypocrisy for Brazil to ignore the existence and not legalize gambling. Instead of turning a blind eye to the activity, Freire argues that the state collects taxes and invests resources in strategic sectors such as Public Safety.

The speech of the Deputy was motivated by the operation of the magistrates of the Civil and Military police of São Paulo, together with the Public Prosecutor's Office, that arrested 12 police officers accused of involvement in the security of illegal gambling houses earlier this month.

"Today's newspapers are open and we see police involvement in the protection of unauthorized games in Brazil, but we can not close our eyes to this: gaming exists!"

Silas Freire continued in his explanation recalling the projects PL 244/1991 of the Chamber of Deputies and PLS 186/2014, of the Senate, which deal with legalization, are processed in parliament and have not yet been voted. They would both bring tax benefits to the country that would return the society.

"We are hypocrites when we close our eyes to gaming in Brazil. In the Brazilian Legislative Branch they process projects that legalize these games, stipulate the collection of taxes and propose royalty for public safety."

Also in the field of public security, the parliamentarian spoke about the situation of the Military Police of Piaui, which has few security servers and does not have money to carry out much of its activities. For Freire, a regulated gambling industry could change that situation.

"In my state, Piauí, we have been out of workforce for at least two decades, and the state is not in a position to hire military police officers, so why hypocritically not legalize gaming? We could stop this irregular action of the police, pay them better and increase our workforce."

At the conclusion of the speech, Deputy Sila Freire again criticized the Brazilians' stance to close their eyes to what already exists and reaffirmed the importance of legalizing gambling even to alleviate national treasury bills. "We, Brazilians, have a very ugly habit: we close our eyes to what is happening, instead of legalizing, collecting and investing in our public security that is capping, being supported only by the State Treasury."
