The company to take the case to court

Cordish to sue Madrid over casino project rejection

Cordish Companies’s project proposed in Madrid seems doomed to fail as the firm announced it will take legal action against the local government led by Cristina Cifuentes, which rejected for the second time Cordish’s proposal to build Live! Resorts Madrid through an investment of US$ 2 billion.

According to Cordish’s representatives, the arguments behind the government’s new rejection of the bill are meaningless, so they will take this case to the court. In a statement, Cordish Companies director, Joseph Weinberg, said they were surprised to know that his modified proposal was considered unacceptable.

"If the Community of Madrid does not believe that our project Live! Resorts Madrid sufficiently satisfies the requirements for a CID (Integrated Development Center), license, this decision is equivalent to saying that no project can meet its requirements,” said Weinberg.

Cordish insists that its proposal would create more than 56,000 jobs, as well as a big economic impact for the region. "The reasons alleged in the rejection by the regional government simply do not make sense and we are sure that the courts will see it,” added the executive.

Likewise, the representatives of Cordish severely criticized the fact that neither Madrid councilor of economics and the governor Cifuentes, did not participate in the multiple negotiation meetings between the government and the company.

Cordish also affirmed that there was "total lack of transparency from the autonomous administration, as well as” very serious irregularities observed in the processing of the first and second applications.”
