New bill would ban casinos on state land in Paraguay
Paraguayan deputy Amado Florentín has presented a bill to the Paraguayan Congress to ban the exploitation of casinos in properties that are owned by the state. The proyect would stop the installation of the Hard Rock casino on land in the Port of Ciudad del Este.
According to legislative procedures, it is anticipated that this bill can be analyzed by the full Chamber of Deputies in 15 days, before being referred to the Committees on Constitutional Affairs and Legislation for its subsequent ruling.
The bill proposes the amendment of article 25 of Law 1016/1997, which establishes "the legal regime for the exploitation of games of chance."

In addition, Florentín insists that the bill seeks to prevent and take care of the interests of the Paraguayan State, because to compromise public property for the exploitation of casinos, directly or indirectly, "would make the state itself a necessary partner to exploit the business, distorting the nature of the concession of exploitation."
