THE STATE WAITS FOR LEGALIZATION

Brazil’s Goias also intends to receive casinos, bingos and slots

The bill, in addition to the release of jogo do bicho, bingo and slot machines in Brazil, provides that each state may have up to three casinos depending on its population. The prediction would be that states up to 15 million inhabitants would be licensed to have a casino, as is Goiás.

The legalization of casinos is coming in Brazil. This is at least the message that the media has been commenting, due not only to the movements in the Congress in Brasilia, but also to the signs that Brazilian civil society has been giving about the subject. The issue is very controversial, since much of the country continues to look at gambling as a source of moral evil, and therefore as a sin to avoid.

However, perhaps as a sign of the times, there seems to be a considerable proportion of society ready to accept change. After all, many Brazilians already access casino games through the internet, proving how current law has become obsolete by the progress of technology. Even President Michel Temer gave signs in favor of the measure and would be ready to end the gaming ban imposed in 1946, although he prefers not to talk much about it so as not to irritate his partners in Brasilia.

Where will the casino in Goias be placed?

It seems that Goiania is not the strongest candidate to receive a casino. An article in June 2016 stated that Caldas Novas, the capital of thermal tourism, was in the "pole position" to launch more than one application and be ready when the race for this valuable license begins.

Several foreign investors would already be watching the potential of the city, which could turn into the real Las Vegas in Brazil. In fact, some of these investors would already be precisely linked to Las Vegas and would bring not only their money but also their knowledge of the industry.

Certainly the casino would not be the only attraction of the city,it could also have bingo halls and other establishments, as long as the law allows.

Will there be gambling halls in Anapolis?

The details of the bill released by the media are much more vague about the conditions of installation of bingo halls and slot machines. However, it is almost certain that this criterion will be much wider than that of the casinos, and that all major Brazilian cities may have establishments of this kind.

Some cities, of course, already have them, as it was discovered in December in Vila Velha / ES, when police closed a clandestine casino, destined for the upper middle class, according to Globo. Legalization should, so hope its advocates, help control and identify actions and behaviors of business owners who harm their users.
