Development of new Marina del Sol casino in Chile underway

The president of Chilean operator Marina del Sol, Nicolás Imschenetzky has confirmed that work on the company’s new venue in Chillán will “begin immediately”, after the project has received its final out- standing approvals.

The move comes after the Environmental Assessment Commission for the Bío Bío Region unanimously approved the project’s environmental impact statement, following a lengthy process which began back in June.

“The declarations are long and complex procedures, so obviously we are very happy to have done a good job and that everyone has been satisfied with the arguments we gave and with the mitigation solutions,” stated Imschenetzky.

The approval for the development had been awarded in August 2016 by the national regulator, the Superintendencia de Casinos de Juego (SCJ), but Marina del Sol did not receive its municipal building permit until August this year. As a result of the delay in obtaining the permits, the SCJ extended the project term by an additional year.

“We do not want to use that [extended] deadline, we are going to make every effort to make sure the casino portion [of the project] is in place as soon as possible,” Imschenetzky continued.

“As we had promised that we would have it ready in 12 months, our commitment is to have it online before the end of next year. The rest of the project will be ready in 2019.”

The project will include a 100-room five star hotel, a casino hosting 450 slot machines, 20 gaming tables, and a 68-seat bingo parlour, along with a convention centre, an art gallery, a museum, and an artificial lagoon.
