Deusdina Pereira

Caixa's Lotteries VP is also investigated for corruption in Brazil

Together with Deusdina dos Reis Pereira, Vice-President of Lotteries, Caixa's president, Gilberto Occhi and three other vice presidents are suspected of involvement in cases of misuse of funds and investigated by the Federal Public Ministry and Caixa itself. The government of President Michel Temer and the presidency of CEF will reject the recommendation of the MPF to remove all the vice presidents of the state-owned bank.

With regard directly to Deusdina dos Reis Pereira, Vice-President of Lotteries, there are two charges that point to involvement with Eduardo Cunha, deputy that is currently imprisoned in Curitiba.

In the first indictment Deusdina was appointed by Antônio Carlos Ferreira, the Corporate Vice President, to maintain, along with Roberto Derziê de Sant'Anna, Vice-President of Government, meetings with Cunha to handle Caixa's operations.

In another suspicion, the Vice President of Lotteries is placed as the right arm of Fabio Cleto, vice president of Caixa and first to report irregularities in the bank and that after his resignation would have introduced Cunha as his "substitute."

The accused executives should not leave their positions now. According to the presidency of the republic, the situation of executives does not contradict the Law of State, which disciplines the appointment of directors and advisers of public companies.

In a note, Caixa reported that it had a "governance system appropriate to the State Law", which would make "most of the MPF recommendations already implemented, in decision-making bodies" and that it will respond formally to the MPF on the request of removal of all the vice presidents from this Monday (8th), when the recess of the Attorney General's Office in the Federal District ends.

The president, Gilberto Occhi, and the vice presidents did not comment on the matter.
