Giant Mexican media group TV Azteca receives permission to operate casino

The Secretariat of the Interior of Mexico (Segob) granted a permit to Televisión Azteca, the second-largest mass media company in the country after Televisa, for the installation and operation of a casino. According to the regulation, TV Azteca will be able to capture bets via Internet, by telephone and by electronic ways.

Only two months after the current administration of the Segob ends, the scheme that operated in 2005 was repeated, local newspaper Reforma reported. At that time, Santiago Creel granted Televisa permits to open 65 gambling houses, six days before leaving the agency to seek PAN's presidential candidacy.

Now, YV Azteca will be able to operate bets via digital and telephone, organize draws of numbers, symbols and/or figures, and capture bettings in sports competitions both in Mexico and abroad, including the transmission and taking of bets in racetracks and greyhounds.

The permit was granted on September 13 with the authorization of Eduardo Cayetano Cacho Silva, general director of Games and Draws, according to the publication.

Cayetano Silva, appointed on January 28 by the outgoing federal administration, was responsible for signing the document that endorses this permit to the company that has authorization to establish its first establishment in the municipality of Yanga, Veracruz.

The document details that the corporate name is Ganador Azteca SAPI de C.V., is a company formed by TV Azteca SAB de C.V. and Rafael Rodríguez Sánchez, legal director of the firm.
