However, Lotteriinspektionen said that having reviewed all applications received to date, a number of applicants needed to make “comprehensive additions” to their iniital submissions. It has begun to send out requests to the relevant companies for additional information, and warned that those that fail to send this information in an allotted time may not secure a licence by January 1st, 2019.
The regulator also encouraged operators to continue sending in new applications, noting that there was no limit to the number of licences that could be awarded in the country.
Lotteriinspektionen added that it continued to receive a number of questions from the gambling industry about the language used in the licence application document. These mainly related to responsible gaming and match-fixing, it said.
While the regulator aimed to answer as many questions as possible, it said that its focus was on processing the applications, meaning it did not have the time or resources to answer all queries.
It will look to regularly update the frequently asked questions section on its website, as well as providing information through the trade associations SPER and Branschföreningen för Onlinespel (BOS).
Lotteriinspektionen also said that it was unable to provide advice on how legislation should be interpreted with regards to gambling marketing, and advised applicants to ensure their strategies would contribute to a “safe and secure gambling market”.
