"The regulation of gaming in Brazil is an unavoidable and necessary step"

GMB continues the interviews cycle with Online Gaming Summit Brazil (OGS) speakers that takes place next December 3-4 in São Paulo. In this case, Daniel Cossi, president of CBDEL (Brazilian Confederation of Electronic Sports), talks about how he will present this sector in the event, his optimism about the expectations for the gaming sector in the future Bolsonaro’s government, and states that the regulation of the activity is inevitable and must be done almost immediately.

Next December 3-4, at the Pacaembu Stadium in São Paulo, OGS Brazil will bring together operators, product and service providers, regulators and authorities to discuss the current scenario and future regulation of the Online Gameing and Sports Betting sector in Brazil. With the renovation in the benches both in the Senate and in the Chamber of Deputies, it is expected that the regulation of the sector topic will return to the agenda.

GMB - With what expectations do you get to the Online Gaming Summit Brasil, an unprecedented event for our market? What will your panel be about?
Daniel Cossi -
There are many, especially as to the quality of the place where the exchanges of information, points of view and information that are pertinent to the scenario of betting and online games, which will now be validated and regulated in the Brazilian market, can be shared with stakeholders , players and people at the forefront of this market's actions, forming an initial path to be successfully and prosperously pursued in a sustainable and responsible manner. My panel will be about the role of electronic sport in that market and the busness related to specific points of certain ways of competition and franchises.

Is this kind of knowledge-sharing meeting something that the country needs to prevent the population from being misinformed about the false "dangers" of the gaming?
We must constantly fight against misinformation, omission of wrong information, or even false information. Solid knowledge as well as the ways to propagate what is right, just and fact must always be put first in our participations and prioritized as a source of responsibility for the business focus to be fostered.

Can you anticipate some of the ideas or some data you will present to the public on your panel?
I will talk a lot about what the electronic sports market offers in parallel and in sync with the betting market, and the ways that the electronic sport, and its franchises and platforms, offer for the trade of small parts intrinsic to it to be made effective. In addition we will talk about the negative and positive points of these possibilities that already raise some questions about what would be fair and possible and show the separation that exists in the market of electronic games and sports, such as which are the affected parts with respect to micro transactions and the potential increase of certain aspects in the competitiveness among players of some franchises, among other aspects.

Online gaming seems today to be the fastest growing modality in the world. Why do you think this is happening? Is traditional face to face gaming business at risk?
Online gaming is largely comfortable. There is no need for travel, special care with feeding, planning among other aspects, which also reduces the costs of your practice and increases the number of fans adept. In addition, the profile of people who prefer online gambling does not represent a substitution of those who also do it in person. They may be different audiences in an operational way, but they may also complete or even have double habits depending on the game, occasion and opportunity, and especially personal availability.

How do you evaluate the progress of online gambling in a legislative level in Brazil? Do you think that by 2019 we will have an open and regulated market?
Very positively, because regulation above all brings security to both sides. In addition, the overall market heats up and new job opportunities, new business and entrepreneurship arise. Everything indicates that yes, in 2019 we will have the regulated market. It is an unavoidable and necessary step almost immediately.

How do you imagine that the new government led by Jair Bolsonaro will address the gaming market in the country?
Liberalism and the practical principles inherent in this positioning are paramount for economic growth, and certainly our president-elect is in this vein as I am and so many who are in this market. There is no doubt that we will have definite progress with this new government, with regard to electronic games, betting and also in electronic sports.
