Cirsa registers operating profit of €95m in the third quarter

The major Spanish gaming machine and casinos operator Cirsa Gaming Corporation, saw operating profits of €95 million in the third quarter of 2018, which representes a 6.7% up on the same period of 2017. Income was €367.3 million, an increase of 5.3%. The Sportium sports book division saw improvements in revenues notably from the World Cup in Russia.

Separating the group’s interests, the casino sector saw significant revenue growth despite the negative effect of the exchange rates in Latin American currencies against the euro. The group reports that during the year it remodeled some of its gaming rooms in Colombia and Panama and expanded its locations in Colombia and Peru.

The slots division in Spain increased revenues over the previous year. The main driver was fresh regulation in Andalucia and the success of the machines Pearl of the Caribbean and On the Rocks.

In Italy the company did well with both its AWP and VLT machines despite regulation changes forcing down the number of Cirsa AWP machines by 20 per cent and fresh tax increases.

In bingo the traditional game in Spain and AWPs in bingo halls saw progress and there was remodeling of the halls in Andalucia while Bingo Salou in Tarragona was added to the company’s holdings in the year. This venue holds 325 players and has 42 machines. In Mexico there was an increase in revenue from the casinos.

The Sportium sports book division saw improvements in revenues notably from the World Cup in Russia.

Cirsa now has 14,500 employees, runs 146 casinos, 42,000 gaming machines, 71 bingo halls, 188 gaming halls, 3,000 sports betting points and 2,500 VLTs in Spain, Italy and Latin America.
