Vescovi is currently chair of the bank's board of directors and was responsible for the new statute, which was adjusted to improve governance and reduce the level of political interference in the institution.
However, there is a group led by bank officials who supports that Nelson de Souza keeps the position. He is a career employee of the institution, has been in the presidency of the bank since April of this year and has acted in a way aligned to Vescovi.
The executive secretary was invited but refused the invitation of Rio's elected-governor, Wilson Witzel, to lead the state's treasury secretariat.
Vescovi, who has been in charge of the National Treasury, was Treasury secretary of Brazilian southeastern state of Espírito Santo, where she implemented a tough fiscal adjustment program.
