The Lotex auction - an arm of instant lotteries of the state-owned bank Caixa Econômica Federal - would be held at the end of November, but was postponed by the National Bank for Economic and Social Development (BNDES) for next year, under the government of President-elect Jair Bolsonaro (PSL), despite the adjustments in the announcement that made payment conditions more flexible for the winner.
Before that, the government had tried, unsuccessfully, to sell the Lotex concession on two occasions.
Silva pointed out that three operators have already expressed an interest in the auction and have been in contact with the government about it.
The Ministry of Finance and the Administrative Council for Economic Defense (Cade) have argued that the lottery market in Brazil has the potential to raise 30 billion reais (US$ 7.7bn) a year, more than double that registered in 2017 in a book on the subject.
