Minister of Tourism of Brazil wants priority for casino instalation in hotels

With the agenda of the sector excluded from the list of priorities published on Monday (19) by the government, Brazilian Tourism Minister, Marx Beltrão (MDB), met with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, Rodrigo Maia (DEM-RJ), to call for a vote on the sector's guidelines, that includes allowing foreign capital in airlines, transforming Embratur into an agency, modernizing tourism law, and authorizing the creation of casino resorts.

According to deputy Paulo Azi, rapporteur of the project that ends with the restriction of 20% of foreign companies in the share capital of airlines operating on flights within Brazil, the idea is to take advantage of this proposal to vote on all topics at once.

In an articulation of the ministry with deputies at the end of the year, the projects were annexed so that they were voted together and an urgent request was presented.

Azi says that one of the most controversial points will be the proposal to legalize gambling, but only with casinos built in tourist resorts, that is one of the proposals of foreign companies to invest in Brazil. The issue was discussed in a special committee of the House, but the approved version also legalized other types of games, such as local popular jogo do bicho and slot machines.

"We will still see how to do this because we will face, on the one hand, the resistance of those who are against the legalization of gaming as a whole and, on the other hand, those who favor the 'general liberation'," said the rapporteur. "My opinion is ready, but we still need to talk to the party leaders to align the most controversial points."
