During last week, a novelty involved poker and football. The Botafogo of Ribeirão Preto announced the creation of the Botafogo Poker Team, a team to play the biggest poker tournaments in the next five months.
The idea came from the sponsorship of LOL Sports Bar and will have a team with six professional players. In this period, in addition to playing the major tournaments in Sao Paulo and the country, the group plans to play the WSOP in Las Vegas in mid-year.
"We hope to consolidate poker as a sport of mind, bring new fans and promote the club in the municipal, state, national and world spheres, as well as we’ll try to obtiain the main titles of the sport," said Bruno Assunção, owner and partner of LOL Sports Bar in an interview with Agência Botafogo.
The relationship between poker and football is not new. Months ago, Palmeiras, then Brazilian champion, placed a poker table inside his training center. Something that also happened in Paraná Clube. Or when a place for the game was opened inside the Morumbi stadium.
