"Sport needs to be attentive to the transformations of society, which happen faster and faster. Among those born before the millennium, 45% of people prefer sports and 13% eSports; in the Millennium generation there is a tie, 27% prefer sports and 27% eSports. What happens from generation Z?", asks the academic coordinator FGV FIFA/CIES, Pedro Trengrouse.
Names like Patrick Nally, president of the International Federation of Pocker (IFP) and icon of the global sports marketing; Igor Federal, Founder of the Brazilian Confederation of Texas Hold'em (CBTH); and Andre Akkari, PokerStars athlete, are some of the speakers that will approach poker as an Olympic sport. "Brazil already has about 8 million players and 500 registered clubs. The Brazilian Circuit of Poker (BSOP), one of the largest poker championships in the world, distributes more than US$15 million per year in prizes, the same as the CBF in the Brazilian Cup," says the FGV professor.
Zeynep Gencaga, Fernanda Lobão, João Sobreira and Arnon de Mello are invited to address the eSports theme and will present an overview of the industry's growth around the world with concrete examples such as the NBA digital strategy and Go4it initiatives. Carlos Fonseca and Roberto Iervolino are going to discuss modalities such as League of Legends, DOTA and others that are gaining more space in Brazil with Senator Roberto Rocha, who talks about his Bill to regulate electronic sports in the country.
"In 2016, the League of Legends Championship took 20,000 people to the Staples Center and had 43 million people online. In 2011, the DOTA Championship award was US$1.6 million; in 2016, US$20.8 million, higher than the football Libertadores Cup," notes Pedro Trengrouse.
The direction of the sport in the virtual world will also gain space in the seminar. Maureen Flores, José Renato Hopf and Edoardo Sigaud will talk about sports trends on the Internet, ICOs in football clubs and the engagement of fans through technology during the panel "Sport on the Net".
