PokerStars gets ready for India launch

The Stars Group has entered into a partnership with gaming company Sugal & Damani to support the launch of its PokerStars brand in India. PokerStars will replace khelplay, an online poker website that was previously operated by Sugal & Damani’s parent firm, Sachar Gaming Private Limited.

According to information released by According to GLaws.in, Khelplay was scheduled to shut down as of March 15, in order to pave the way for the PokerStars site. Sugal & Damani is involved in a lot of different businesses, including real estate, lotteries, and financial and technology services.

Records seen by GLaws.in show that Sachiko Gaming Private Limited, another company owned by Sachar Gaming Private Limited, now owns the domain name ‘Pokerstars.in’. At present, the Pokerstars.in greets visitors with a message that states ‘Coming Soon!’.

While there has not been an official date for activity to begin, sources indicate that the company could uncover the first virtual felts within the next couple of weeks. Given PokerStar’s marketing history, they’ll certainly let everyone know when it’s up and running.

Rafi Ashkenazi, chief executive of The Stars Group, has previously spoken about the possible launch of PokerStars in India, initially stating that the service would go live in 2017.
