After CCJ rejection

Brasilian Senator asks that gaming bill be analyzed by Tourism Commission

After the project was rejected by the Commission on Constitution, Justice and Citizenship (CCJ) and in view of the importance of the subject for the incentive or development of the regional tourism industry, Senator Wellington Fagundes (PR/MT), required that PLS nº 186/2014 that deals with the exploitation of games of chance throughout the national territory to be analyzed by the Committee on Regional Development and Tourism. The application (nº 150/2018) is now waiting to be included in the agenda.

"In view of the importance of the issue or encouraging the development of the regional tourism industry, we consider it of great importance to analyze the theme in the Committee on Regional Development and Tourism. Therefore, the examination of the matter requires a more detailed analysis in this Commission, which is why I count on the support of the noble Peers, to approve this Application," Fagundes explains in his request to the Senate.

It is worth to recall that the CCJ rejected the progress of this law on March 7, although its opinion is not definitive since the project can be analyzed by another Commission or go directly to a vote of Plenary in case the president of the Senate disposed so.

On the other hand, Senate Bill No. 149 of 2018, by Senator Fernando Bezerra Coelho, requests the joint processing of Senate Bill No. 595, 2015 with Senate Bill 186, of 2014.

"I request, under the terms of art. 258 of the Internal Rules of the Federal Senate, the joint process of Senate Bill No. 595, of 2015, which deals with environmental protection and the promotion of ecotourism in Conservation Units through shared management with casino hotels authorized to operate games of chance, creates a Contribution for Intervention in the Economic Domain incident on the hotel-casino operation (Cide Verde), amends Decree-Law No. 3,688, of October 3, 1941, and the Laws 9,718 of November 27, 1998, and 11,516 of August 28, 2007, with Senate Bill No. 186,2014, which governs the operation of games of chance; defines what are the games of chance, how they are exploited, authorizations, allocation of resources collected; defines administrative infractions and crimes as a result of violation of the rules concerning the exploitation of games of chance, because they deal with the same matter (exploitation of games of chance)," said the text presented by Senator Bezerra Coelho.

The applications will be included in the Order of the Day in a timely manner according to the official website of the Brazilian Senate.
