Philippines’ Boracay resort to be more family oriented

The proposed Boracay resort to be developed in partnership between Galaxy Entertainment Group and Leisure and Resorts World Corp. (LRWC) will not be a “mega casino” but rather, a family oriented leisure destination. Gaming areas will not exceed 7.5 percent of of the facility.

In a statement, LWRC defended its US$500 million resort, noting its focus on providing family entertainment, rather than gaming services. LRWC said that the casino and gaming areas of the facility will not exceed 7.5 percent of the total floor area of the resort "at all times.”

"Thus, the planned Boracay Resort is expected to churn more revenues from the hotel and other ancillary businesses vis-a-vis the gaming segment as it attracts customers all over the region looking for luxury Asian destinations," Katrina Nepomuceno, LRWC vice president for legal, said.

Nepomuceno said that families would make up for around 50 percent of its customers, while Chinese tourists and other travelers to the island would make up the other half.

Last week, Galaxy and LRWC received a provisional license for its Boracay resort from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp.

The casino is set to be located on the waterfront and spans more than 20 hectares, including beaches.
