Portuguese football joins against match fixing

The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), the Portuguese Football League and the Players' Union carry out joint action against the combination of results. The institutions launched the campaign 'Betting is not for you. Your game is in the field ', in defense of the integrity of the competitions and raising awareness to fight the crime of match fixing.

With the end of the championships approaching and with some teams with positions already determined, the possibility of match fixing increases and the campaign arrives with the main intention to remember that any intervener in the game is prohibited, including the player to bet on his own competition, in Portugal is considered a crime and can be sentenced to 3 to 10 years in prison.

Rute Soares, Integrity Officer FPF/UEFA, pointed out on the website of the Portuguese Football Federation: "Enticing players or referees to manipulate a game or part of it because of a sports bet is a phenomenon that is growing all over the world, especially, from this phase of the championship. The awareness of this phenomenon is a priority for the FPF and we believe that this campaign will have an effect against false promises and illusions, for those who have nothing to do with football but infiltrating it by damaging the lives of referees, players, coaches and clubs, damaging the modality.”

With several betting sites sponsoring clubs around the world, it is very important to remember that this relationship has to be handled with care and with detachment from football.
