"The Nevada Gaming Commission will be on hand to collaborate with Brazil"

After Ewa Bakun and Sergio Jardim of Clarion inaugurated officially BgC 2018, Becky Harris, chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Commission, said that in her state the entire society understands the benefits of gaming activity and how much the industry represents for the local economy. 'The fight you all are facing in Brazil, we live in Ohio,' said Senator William P. Coley, II during the first of the seciones of the day.

Although everyone believes that the regulation of the gaming industry is still slow due to the elections, Sérgio Jardim, Managing Director of Clarion Brasil, believes that it is important "to sow so that the harvest is profitable for all involved, from operators and suppliers to society as a whole for the benefits that a strong economic activity can offer the country." At the end of his presentation, he wished good business and good contacts for all those involved in the project to regulate the activity in Brazil.

In the opening panel of the event, intelligently called "Semear" (that means “to sow”), the mediator Eduardo Barão, journalist of the Bandeirantes de Comunicação Group, highlighted the issue of the Brazilian elections in 2018 as a factor that can slow the gaming regulation, "but it is important that all stakeholders stay alert to continue to point the benefits of the activity to the country. We need to make the congressmen aware of the importance of the sector."

Then the keynote speakers of the opening session, Senator William P. Coley, II, of the American state of Ohio, and Becky Harris, chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Commission, were invited to compose the table. To them, Baron asked about the importance of regulation the activity.

Senator William Coley said he had been in his state for a few years, since there was no regulation of te gaming in his jurisdiction, and that was a very difficult time, "because the fight you are all facing in Brazil, we live in Ohio. Being in congresses like this is important to strengthen information about the benefits of the activity to society."

Becky Harris said that in Nevada the whole society understands the benefits of gaming activity and how much the industry represents to the local economy. She questioned whether illegal gaming will be regulated as it would be very important to treat all segments of the activity. "If the Brazilian Congress approves a very rigid regulation and covering all the characteristics that the activity involves, the Nevada Gaming Commission will be on hand to collaborate with an experience of years of proper regulation."

Coley recalled that many groups interested in the illegal market have always supported those who opposed the regulation of gambling. "This happened in Ohio and I'm sure it's happening in Brazil, so those involved in regulation need to show society that only legal and well-regulated gambling will be positive for the country."

On the creation and expansion of the sector after the regulation, the Ohio senator said working with the community will be key to the activity.

Asked about the US Supreme Court's approval of sports betting throughout the country, both stressed that proper regulation will be important for the country, just as it is in Nevada. The chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Commission has admitted that approval of the activity for the other states will be beneficial to Nevada, "because we will be able to compare and healthy competition is great for any activity and also in the gaming industry."

Any legislation, according to the senator, takes into account the well-being of society and the casino, as entertainment, is not at the top of the list of priorities, although its end result is benefits to society. "Even so, it's important to focus on defining a law for the activity, as well as associating everything with a strong gaming commission to ensure a rules-based process," he said.
