Sao Paulo district send letter to Brazilian Senate supporting gaming legalization

The City Council of São Paulo city of Votuporanga approved the motion 6/2018 (authored by the councilman Vilmar da Farmacia), which supports Senator Ciro Nogueira's 186/2014 project to legalize gaming in Brazil. The letter sent to the Senate was incorporated into the bill. 'The new law will promote tourism, in addition to generating jobs and tax collection for the municipalities,' they argued.

In the document submitted to the Senate, the councilors of Votuporanga presented the following arguments:

"Considering that Senator Ciro Nogueira's Bill 186/2018 is being processed in the Federal Senate, which regulates bingo games among other types of gambling, is being processed in the Federal Senate.

Considering that such proposal in our opinion must be approved by the Federal Senate, since it will promote tourism, besides generating jobs and tax collection for the Municipalities.

Considering that many owners of bars and restaurants would like to exploit this type of gambling in their establishments in a lawful way, that is to say, without being clandestine.

Considering also that the games of bingos are rooted in our society, having accepted of a great part of the population, however, due to the lack of regulation ends up being object of irregular operation which will be healed if the proposal is approved.

Considering that in this sense this Legislative House must express its support manifesto to the said Bill so that, in this way, there is no hiding place in the accomplishment of this activity in our Country, becoming still source of collection of taxes that in our opinion should be destined exclusively the improvement of Education and the Single Health System in the Municipalities.

In this way, we present this proposal in the sense that it is addressed to the Federal Senate MOTION OF SUPPORT of this Legislative House, aiming at the approval of Bill No. 186/2014. "

Votuporanga joins other cities that have also expressed support for PL 186/2014 through its legislative houses. The most recent was the city of Caxias in Rio Grande do Sul.
